I have to admit, I feel guilty! Not because I am only now reviewing the 5th album by WISECRÄCKER six weeks after its release. That can happen; it's all just a hobby, and other things sometimes take precedence. No, the reason is different.....
There is WISECRÄCKER from Hanover, which is just around the corner, and they have been around for over 25 years! And I had never heard a song from them before. Yes, shame on me! I really feel bad about this secret, especially since I have certainly heard the name of the ska punk band before. I also think I might have heard them on a sampler, but that is nothing compared to the excitement of being able to listen to an album. Because that’s what I’m doing right now, or rather, I have been for weeks..
While listening to the 11 songs from "Vida en color", I keep thinking of SONDASCHULE and MONTREAL, two of my favorite bands, and thus WISECRÄCKER is rising in my favor hour by hour (and I have been listening to WISECRÄCKER for many hours now). Unlike the bands from Mühlheim a.d. Ruhr and Hamburg, the Hanoverians also have songs in Spanish (!) and English, as you can already see in the album title: "Life in Colors", in Spanish, of course...
Okay, I can't say anything about the Spanish lyrics, but the rest about left – right – genocide – drugs – dancing – music – fun, the "usual" stuff, but melodically and lyrically 100% fitting to their awesome ska punk music, it just carries you away and goes straight to your dancing feet. Okay, not every song goes straight to the blood; it can't, especially if the song is about the Holocaust. Nevertheless, there are 34 minutes of great music on "Vida en color"!!!
In the process, WISECRÄCKER has pulled in quite a few well-known guests for the recordings, which stretched over many months, but if a great album comes out of it, that's legitimate. TOP!
