The founding of Maylene & the Sons Of Disaster in 2004 is primarily attributed to singer Dallas Taylor, who was previously with Underoath.
After their first release in 2005, the guys from Alabama are now delivering their third release, this time under the label Ferret / Hellfest / Universal.
It becomes clear after just a few notes that these are indeed guys from the South. Southern rock and metalcore. Rock, rock, rock, and again, with little excursions, the typical instruments expected from the South.
The whole thing is played with the rather atypical lineup of three guitarists and a drummer. Pressure, cool riffs, classic openers, screaming guitars in the background. Everything done right!
On the record, alongside the successful Southern rock tracks that sometimes transition into metalcore, there are also wonderful mid-tempo pieces like "Listen Close" or "Just A Shock" or "Last Train Coming," which could easily come from the giants of (pork) rock from Scandinavia.
The vocals switch between rock and scream-o passages to catchy sing-along backings.
I can only recommend this CD to anyone who is enthusiastic about pork rock, no matter which continent it comes from; and to take a look at the Myspace page.
